The issue which prohibits hunting for Boy scouts is not only ethical,
it is about what direction we aim our scouts in.
A good troop will introduce a boy to many different events and
activities. A boy scout troop should offer introductions into firearm saftey,
basic boating, Basic Climbing, begineer rafting, hiking ect. Venturing Crews
are designed to go in depth into an event after a scout has decided that he
or she has an intrest in that activity. Thus Venturing crews may participate
in harder rock climbing or more difficult high adventure or hunting.
I've always felt the issue was time. a troop could put on a good
hunting or similarly difficult program for it's older scouts but they would
have to dedicate a few monthes to it/ This is often unfair to scouts who may
not be so interested in that event. Imagine being a scout who doesn't care
for hunting or is prohibited by his parents, looking at a troop calendar and
realizing you have nothing to do for the next two/ three monthes.
