I know this isn't cub scout related but I wanted everyone to remember to
please be careful while making their visits on this Holiday and please
say a pray for our children and Mrs. Trustdorf. One of the people that
died in this wreck was my daughter's reading teacher. He was an
excellent teacher and he will be missed.
AN ACCIDENT ON I-77 SOUTHBOUND, SOUTH OF STONECREEK HAD TRAFFIC SNARLED
AND EMERGENCY PERSONNEL JUMPING ON TUESDAY MORNING. TWENTY ONE VEHICLES,
INCLUDING 4 TRUCKS WERE INVOLVED IN THE PILE-UP, WHICH HAD THE
SOUTHBOUND LANES CLOSED FOR OVER 10 HOURS. NORTHBOUND LANES WERE ALSO
CLOSED TEMPORARILY TO ALLOW TANKER TRUCKS TO GET AROUND THE FIRES WHICH
IGNITED AT THE ACCIDENT SCENE. MULTIPLE AMBULANCE AND SQUAD UNITS WERE
DISPATCHED, AS WELL AS THE COUNTY'S HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TEAM. ACCORDING
TO TUSCARAWAS COUNTY 911 COORDINATOR CHARLES DEMUTH, A MED-FLIGHT
HELICOPTER WAS INITIALLY SUMMONED, BUT WAS UNABLE TO RESPOND DUE TO THE
EXTREMELY FOGGY CONDITIONS . A RELIEF CENTER WAS SET UP AT THE
STONECREEK FIRE STATION TO AID VICTIMS OF THE CRASH. TROOPERS FROM THE
NEW PHILADELPHIA POST OF THE STATE HIGHWAY PATROL ARE INVESTIGATING THE
CAUSE WHICH IS SUSPECTED TO BE WHAT WAS DESCRIBED AS A WALL OF FOG.
THERE WERE TWO FATILITIES, ONE OF THE DEAD WAS INDIAN VALLEY ELEMENTARY
SCHOOL TEACHER STEVE TRUSTDORF OF DOVER. INDIAN VALLEY SCHOOL OFFICIALS
HAVE CANCELLED CLASSES FOR WEDNESDAY. COUNCELORS AND MINISTERIAL STAFF
WILL BE AT THE PORT WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FROM 8AM TO 3PM
WEDNESDAY. TRUSTDORF WAS A TEACHER AT THE SCHOOL. FOUR CARS WERE
UNDERNEATH AN OVERTURNED SEMI. SOME CARS WERE BURNED BEYOND RECOGNITION.
INJURED FROM THE CRASH WERE TAKEN TO UNION HOSPITAL, TWIN CITY HOSPITAL
AND ONE TRANSFER WAS MADE TO ALTMUN HOSPITAL IN CANTON. THE SOUTHBOUND
LANE OF THE INTERSTATE WAS FINALLY OPENED AT AROUND 6PM.
