This was very true of the older (and still most common) gas technology, but
some stoves and lanterns use newer fuel mixtures that are good down to zero

I was surprised to read about switching from a liquid fuel lantern to a
propane one due to a failure in cold weather. I was under the impression
that white gas performed better than propane in cold weather, as the
pressure of the fuel in a liquid fuel device is not temperature dependent.
