My Troop has always been very fortunate in that Scout Sunday has a
service in memory of Lt. John P. Washington, one of the famed "Four
Chaplains" of the USAT Dorchester. Fr. Washington was not only from our
parish, but was also active with Troop 5 at St. Stephen's RC Church in
Arlington (now Kearny), NJ.
Each year on Scout Sunday, every Veterans' group in the area has
representatives and Color Guards present at our Church for a memorial
mass for Fr. Washington. Although BSA uniforms are still in the
minority, we have managed to have boys from the Troop working as altar
servers for the past couple of years in their BSA uniforms.
