Well, since you mentioned it "on" list.....
I have been worrying over the best sock liner to use for +/-
10 years and haven't found a liner yet that really "knocks
my socks off" :)
I recently started (within the last year) buying the Rohner
"Trekker" socks from Sierra Trading Post. I've been wearing
them without any type of liner.
After a half dozen backpacking trips of 10 or more miles,
I'm still blister-free.
The Rohner socks are Merino wool which is the same as "Smart
Wool"... I think. Someone correct me if I'm wrong -
marketeers and advertising aside.
The "Smart Wool" socks are $15 a pair and up; the Rohner
socks can usually be found at Sierra Trading Post for $10 -
$12 which is about 1/2 the usual price. Although the color
choices available from the discount catalog may be bizarre,
it is your inalienable right as a backpacker to go into the
backcountry looking like a geek :-)
Now, can someone else who wears the Rohners please tell me
which side is "right side out"?
