Exactly. After the fourth such reference to "former Eagle Scouts," I wrote
to CNN today and will follow it up with a phone call to their newsroom in
the day tomorrow.
It's a true shame that WE have to do these kinds of things....in the "old
days", the Council Executive or a professional with PR responsibilities
would call the local station and remind them that "Eagle Scout is
capitalized and is a permanent acheivement, like a PhD." The BSA's
National Communications Division would handle the national media by calling
their news editors and reminding them of the same for accuracy of the story.
But, since we no longer have a national Communications Division any more (a
PR firm was retained to serve as the BSA's "mouthpiece") and since many
Councils obiously don't care how we in the program are catagorized, things
like this goes onward every other day...
(Still, Rik's comment above is very valid and if you're a volunteer or
professional in the NYC area, please help us all out by letting them know.
