Let me address this issue from a different perspective.....It is very
difficult to get a publication approved , printed, and then distributed
by national. It is even more difficult to get it done rapidly. This is
one of the major problems we face in Venturing...the slow pace of
materials release...its been changed about the time it comes out. I have
known two of the folks on the National Venturing Committee ( local
Amarillo couple that go by the names of Larry and Donna) for many years.
You wouldnt believe the amount of time and effort that goes into these
publications and books.
Here is another point for consideration.....read the responses to
messages here.....and see if you can find even ONE post that satisfied
everybody and didn't degenerate into a long string of fault-finding and
"we do it different, or I think it REALLY means this" type of dialog.
Now...try to imagine writing a book or guideline and pleasing everybody
that willl ever read it!!!! Its not as easy as you might think to come
up with these publ;ications....try it sometime and see if you appreciate
the negative responses that will come flooding in.
How about this approach...Lets all be grateful that there are folks
(volunteers like you and me) that spend a tremendous amount of time and
their own money to try and come up with the stuff we have. Lets be
grateful that we have something......instead of nit=picking aver what we
get. If you arent happy with the materials...don't use it..or expand on
it locally and look at the materials as a STARTING place..rather than as
a script to be followed blindly.
Thanks for letting me vent....and the next time you see those national
committiee volunteers...don't forget to say thinks for what they do for
