A Scoutmaster's minute on the mathematical definition of a millennium
is not what I had in mind.
In common usage, the decade of the 90's will end on 12/31/99, just as
the decade of the 80's ended 10 years (a decade) earlier. While it may
not be temporally precise, a great many people are looking forward to
the year 2000 as the start of a new millennium.
To the many who have jumped on me with this little dispute, I would say,
"Fine. Have your party a year later than everyone else."
Besides, according to another calendar I use, it's already 5760.
Now, for those of you with something helpful to contribute, I'm all
ears (or eyes).
