First of all, you need to get a copy of Climb On Safely from your council
office that outlines how BSA expects you as a unit to conduct climbing
activities. Get everyone involved with your climbing activity to read it,
better yet, give a class on it yourself to everyone. Be advised that
National BSA is in the process of revising the Climb On Safely requirements
as well as the requirements for Climbing MB. I suggest you go with what is
in print now, but be looking for the new stuff coming out.
Secondly, give the commercial firm that you are planning to work with a copy
of Climb On Safely and Climbing MB, and let them come back to you and the
committee and tell you how they will run the training. I do this all the
time with the outside consultants we bring in to teach the Venturing Ranger
core and elective requirements to our crew. I would be very careful about
who within your unit that you have instruct. I have been climbing since my
teens, but because of the requirement to have a 10 hour training course, I
can no longer teach climbing until I complete a training course.
Hope this helps. Good luck and safe climbing!
