Jim Fitzgerald stated 15 Nov 1999:
I have always thought that we should recruit new (non-cub scout) boys in
March, April and May of their Fifth Grade year. .... The professionals
nix-nay the idea....
Jim, at GST we encourage 5th grade Webelos to cross over in
Feb or March so that they get to know their new troop and
go to summer camp that summer and have some FUN. It
also gives their parents the time to build trust in the adult
leadership so that they will let their son go for a whole week.
Having a great time at summer camp is extremely important
in swaying a scout to continue or leave scouting.
"Your professionals" need to remember that the only way
to keep those numbers up is to provide a funfilled program.
They are withholding program from the boys.
