Here's my opinion.
Although I am still in cubs.
Community Service should be directed solely at the community. Not such
things as a pack, troop or council mandated activity or fundraiser. The best
thing would be to get already scheduled events from your
omminity( religious affiliated dinners, etc.) and ask if the boys may
volunteer to help. I think community service is done on the comminties
schedules not really on scout schedules. Things like cleaning up around
your community are great projects but, you should let your local police know
what you have scheduled. By doing this you will keep your scouts safer, I
garantee that an officer will stop by to check, and it is also a very good
possibility that the word will get out around town. The boys seem to love
the recognition, especially when it is least expected. If you start to
volunteer then the community will start asking for help all its own. No more
searching for project, they will come to you.
