The Eagles, Buffalos, etc. you sometimes see at the end of a post are Wood Badge Patrols. For those of you who are new to Scouting, Wood Badge is the highest level of Scout leader training. It consists of either three weekends plus one or two "patrol meetings" in your community OR a one-week course.
Wood Badge is a leadership/management course at a very high and sophisticated level, even though it is run like a Scout Troop with the attendant happy goofiness that implies. The heart of the course is learning about the skills required to be an effective Scouter and applying them in a Scout environment. These skills are portable; they are as useful in all of one's areas of living as they are in a Troop.
I hope you will all be able to take Wood Badge training as soon as possible.
Yours in Scouting,
I used to be a Woodpecker and a Buffalo, too.
