I would like to add one more thought about looking for a good troop. Lk for
a troop where there are lots of 15, 16, and 17 year old boys. Life and
Eagle Scouts still active in the program. f they are still there, this
troop has been delivering what they need. If there are as many
14-18 year old scouts as there are 11-13, you probably have a sensational
troop, from the perspective of the boys.
The problem, of course, is the "organized chaos." Too many parents see this
kind of troop (always boy run!), and see more chaos than organization. They
tend to try to get their boys into a more structured, cub-like environment.
Someone needs to get to them before they go to any troop meetings anywhere,
and help them to understand what makes the boys stay in.....
