Don't worry. Sure, my grade school paper said I'd be an admiral someday,
but when it came time for the draft physical I turned out to be 1-Y:
physically unfit under current military standards.
Well, they changed the standards and I ended up in Uncle's Army. Did my
limited Scouting help? Certainly it did. I knew what it was like to work in
a patrol of 8-10 guys. I knew what it was like to sleep in a pup tent. Even
volunteered to spend 90 days in the lovely Republic of Viet Nam. And what
did I do over there? Worked as part of a 5-man team (patrol?) independent of
the units to which we were attached.
Maybe the boys of today aren't planning on joining the military, but I
wouldn't worry; somebody else may make a decision for them, and then you'll
see what kind of citizens we've been training.
