First off, contact your USE (Unit Serving Executive) for info and
assistance. Get ahold of a copy of the Venturing Leader Manual (#34655A),
Selling Venturing to the Head of an Organization (AV-03V012), Venturing
Resources for Religious Organization (05-938), What is Venturing Fact Sheet
(25-011) and the like.
> 1. who is the crew advisor? the YM President?
If you are chartering your church's youth group as a Venturing Crew, the
adult (over 21) who is running your youth group would be the obvious choice.
Am not sure if this "YM Prez" is your term for this position.

There is Advisor Fast Start training, which has a video. See your USE for
this. Its #25-878.
Then there is a five-hour Adult Venturing Leader Basic Training #33491A,
which would be run by the council/district for all Venturing adult leaders.
There is also the requisit Youth Protection Training, and there is a special
version for Venturing Leaders (AV-03V014).
All the leaders, both adult or youth, should have copies of the Venturing
Leader Handbook. There will be a new Venturer Handbook soon for all the
youth to use.
> 3. ditto for the youth?
The Venturing Leaders handbook specifies the officer training that is run.
There is also a weekend long Venturing Leadership Skills Course (#34340),
which is for ALL the crew members, not just the officers. This is run by
the crew for the crew, not as a district or council event.
See your USE for access to all Venturing literature. Also check out the
BSA's web site for info on the Venturing program and support materials. I
grabbed all the above numbers and titles from that site!
Remember that numbers with dashes in them can only be obtained from the
council office, others can be ordered from National Supply (tho your council
Scout Shop or Trading post should have them in stock).
Hope this helps.
