Two questions of the group:
Our district committee discussed the issue of making training MANDATORY for
all Cub Scout and Boy Scout leaders. It is my understanding that BSA
National's position is that training is highly recommended and that a council
can set a "local" mandatory policy. Therefore, one district (of a multi
district council) cannot have this policy. Is my thinking correct? Any
comments? Also, can a Chartering Organization have its own policy that
training is mandatory for the leaders of the unit?
Committee also discussed doing Cub school nights in the spring. It was a
joint effort of Membership and Training to present and support this concept.
The main reason is that September school nights force new leaders to make a
commitment, go to training, have their first den meeting and attend their
first pack meeting within a three-week period. The feeling was that this
caused overload and confusion with a tad bit of frustration. Any pro/con
comments from those who have moved from fall to spring (or went back)?
