scouts-l Mail Archive for November of 1999: Family Camping Expert Training? What's next?

I just got word that National has come up with a new Cub unit position of
something like-"Family Camping Expert," I may not have the official title
right. It was first proposed that each unit would send someone to National
Camp School to take training (like I can even get all the leaders to Cub
basic, as it is)! And they would be some kind of expert to guide the
pack/families on a "family campout." I now hear that most likely some
Council members will get the training at National Camp School or PTC and
bring it home to share at the Council and District levels.
Currently our District Training Team is covering:
Cub and Boy Scout Fast Start
Cub Leader Basic
OWL (Outdoor Webelos Leader Training)
The New Troop Committee training
The New Health and Safety Training (required for all who get the Tour Permits)
Are we overmanaging our resources here? Training teams are getting as hard
to find as Unit Commissioners. Now I will not argue that these training's
are not without purpose and as one who has taken CS Trainers WB, I appreciate
all these reason's but a volunteer trainer could drown in the paperwork. No
problem, we'll give them Safety Afloat Training.
