Deborah Keyes asked about ways to get Packs to let the Webelos
go, and to get the Troops to accept them.
I am in the planning stages of a experiment in March of next year
to hold a District Graduation/Crossover for the Webelos in my
District as a part of my Wood Badge ticket. This will not replace
the crossovers done by Packs and Troops, but I hope it will
One of the goals is to set kind of a deadline for the Packs to get
the Webelos to choose a Troop. In other words, if they see the
District graduation coming, the may see that as a "no later than"
date to get the Webelos graduated. I am also hoping it will give us
a way to better track Webelos to Scout transition rates.
I am hoping to get the Webelos and the Troops they are joining to
a campfire ceremony to crossover all the Webelos, a campout, and
then spend the next day doing Scout skill training, maybe BB's or
rifles, what ever I can work out.
I am interested in knowing if anyone else has tried anything like
this. How did it work?
As an aside, I am getting some push back from some of the
Scoutmasters in our area that believe that Webelos should
crossover in December or January. Their logic is that they need
that much time to get skills down before going to summer camp. It
is going to be some job to convince them otherwise.
