I don't understand changing the entire troop program for the few who have
conflicts. Why discontinue Friday night camping. In our troop we have many
scouts who from time to time have conflicts. So we work with the scouts. If
we modified our program to accommodate all the scouts, all the time, we might
have time for a burger at a fast food restaurant on a Saturday.
We frequently have scouts who arrive camp on Friday nights very late. (after
the football game) Some due to distance arriver very early on Saturday
>From time to time, we have scouts with obligations at their church. These
scouts leave after Saturday evening campfire.
My experience has been with Sat-Sun campout. We arrive late on Saturday. By
the time we are set up, its lunch time. No program until afternoon.
Then comes Sunday, we can make up for the lost time. No Way! For some
reason Everyone (especially a chronic few) have to get up at sunrise and be
home early! (they don't want to miss the NFL kickoff) The result is a
program that does not get done.
I suggest have a full campout and full program planned. Then accommodate
those who have a conflict. Don't take the program away from the entire troop
to accommodate for a few.
At least that is my opinion.
