My son also missed some Saturday track meets last spring, one for Scouts
(JLT Staff Development Weekend), one for Latin Club, one for a Choral Trip,
one for his Eagle Project. The coach was obviously not pleased with it,
but didn't stand in his way. We did say he could miss a weekend trip with
his Philmont crew to attend one of the meets. However, these were weekend
tournaments, not league meets, which I'm sure made a difference. I also
suspect that "individual" sports like track and cross-country may be
treated differently by coaches than football or soccer teams, were the
teamwork required to practice or complete various plays is more critical.
I also suspect that how good the team is, how competive the league, or the
status of the team in the school hierarchy make a difference.
