But, sometimes we can get pleasant surprises on this one. In talking with
our crew president about an upcoming officer training session at our council
camp (Venturing's version of JLT for the boy scouters who are wondering...)
he told me he had already coordinated with his coach to miss a cross country
meet so he could be at the training session Friday evening when it starts.
Now...I know that coach...great guy who will cut kids some slack because he
is more into developing youth than he is in winning state (not that these
guys aren't competitive...they certainly are; but in a healthy way). I also
know he would dearly love to have the whole team at the meet...part of
"building the team".
That's the same reason we would like the young man at officer training...to
"build the team".
As it happens, though, we don't get into serious team building until
Saturday morning so I suggested he make the meet and join us in the morning.
Both teams come out ahead.
I wish all coaches were that accomodating...the letter idea is a start.
