I suppose my 100' rope would have a verylightshadeofblue marking! ;-)
Sounds like a great idea.
As an added thought, for identity purposes our troop died bales of binders
twine to make colored strands through ropes (troop ropes had green strand,
each patrol added their color strand for their ropes). One nearby troop
dipped their rope ends in paint to mark them. Rumor was that the color was
determined by mixing two cans of leftover paint from the SMs remodeling.
It was a sick looking yellow-green color that really stood out! I don't
remember any relationships between color and rope length.
