Tips on talking to groups

I am probably the WORST speaker, and my wife regularly lets me know how she
hates it when I get in front of a group.
So when I became a CM the first time, I was worried. Fortunately son #2 (now
12) decided he just HAD to be held by dad during Pack meetings. He'd search
my uniform for things to play with. Eventually he found my Wood Badge Beads.
My original beads are no longer brown -- he sucked the coloring right off of
them. More than once, because I know we tried using shoe polish on them at
least once. Never chewed them, though.
Only unit I ever had where they did not comment on my speaking ability or
lack of it. They were too busy watching the kid and wondering how I managed
to hand out awards, shake hands, and never dropped him.
So maybe all anyone needs is the right prop?
