I remember when I could walk down to the movie theatre, see a cartoon, a
newsreel, a serial (usually Captain Midnight) followed by the previews, a
feature film, intermission, another cartoon and another feature
film.....for the sum total of thirteen cents! The event lasted from about
9 in the AM and you got out of the theatre about 2PM. Popcorn and pop were
both a nickel. I still have a roll of .13 tickets from that theatre that I
was given by the manager when the price skyrocketed to 15 cents! The decor
on the inside of the theatre featured that wonderful craft of sculpting in
plaster, great scenic painting and stained glass light fixtures.
There were ushers....and they were all in uniform!
Kids don't know what they're missing....most of the theatres that have this
kind of decor have been "panelled over" or painted out in flat color. What
BLUE SKIES!, Any day above ground is a good day!
