I'm not a fan of Minute brand rice, but I've used a product from
Uncle Ben that is not fully bleached, but is not truly brown rice
either. Sorry, I forget the name of the product.
Like the Success brand mentioned in other posts it "cooks" when added
to boiling water. Stir in the rice and remove the pot from the heat.
Wait for 5 minutes and eat. This product is not in a bag and can be
added in any ammount. Like normal rice a measured ammount of water
is boile. For me the neat aspect is that the boiled water is completely
absorbed by the rice.
By adding the other ingredients for the dish to the cold water, as
the water is boiled it takes up the flavors and they are then absorbed
by the rice as it rehydrates. Pretty cool and downright tasty.
I've not used this product for several years. One of our adult leaders
had a strong aversion to rice and the "Old Faithful" patrol stopped
eating rice dishes. He's moved on to other service and I'd forgotten
about this product untill my memory was jogged by Barry's post.
