Hi, Kristi, and Welcome!! This list will be of great help to you, if you
Remember to attend Cub Leader Basic as soon as it is offered near you
(check with your Cubmaster and Council office)
The books that I used the most while Wolf/Bear/Webelos leader were
1. The Current Den Leader Handbook (highlighing important stuff with a
colored marker). This book will give you all of the 'rules and
regulations' for uniforming, den meetings, pack meetings (who does what), etc.
2. The Cub Leader How-To Book. This has games, craft ideas, Ethics in
Action (great way to get the boys working as a group), songs, skits, etc.
for the boys to try. The Games section is particularly good. I use this a
lot and take it with me for 'emergency' games (raining, etc)
3. The Cub Scout Song Book...great, easy, fun songs...SING!!!!!
These three I carry in my Den Bag, along with my roster, games supplies,
etc. Other resources that I have used the most are on my website (Pack
215 Virtual Cuib Leader's Handbook, etc) at
Go to the Scouting Links page as a jump off.
Also, if you are interested in doing Neckerchief slides (great as rewards,
simple craft, etc), you can visit The Slide Show, my page of neckerchief
Also, and this is very important, Go To a Roundtable!! Cub Scout RT is a
monthly meeting for Cub leaders. It is where you will get info on events,
learn crafts, games, and songs for your den, AND make friends in Scouting
that will last a lifetime!
If your district does not have a RT, find a district nearby that does. If
you are not sure, ask your council office or post a request here to the
list and someone near you will have the information.
Best of luck and remember the only dumb question is the one you don't ask!
Let me know if I can help!!
