Bob Riley asked for input on how other units handle popcorn profits.
When our Pack split off from an existing unit 4 years ago, the Pack
Leaders promised parents that there would be only one required
fundraiser per year. We ask every family to "do their best," and then
do what we can afford with the amount sold. The Pack keeps the entire
profit from Trail's End, which has so far been enough to fund all the
required expenses (advancements, etc.) plus extras like rollerskating
and an overnight for the whole Pack on the Battleship Massachusetts.
The boys get the Trails End prizes, or this year Pine Tree Council
(Maine) is offering Scout Bucks, which are like cash, and can be used at
the Scout Shop, for summer camp fees, or at Camp Trading Posts.
Since most parents have kids involved with multiple activities, all of
which have to raise money, there's a lot of appreciation for a group
that only hits you up once!
