We survived summer camp!
Sun, 15 Aug 1999 20:20:51 -0700
Just got back into town after travelling about 340 miles round trip
to attend summer camp at Holcomb Valley Scout Ranch, in the mountains
above Big Bear, CA. The difference between this trip and all of the
others our troop has taken in the past is that this years group is by
far the youngest we have ever taken, with only 5 of the fourteen
scouts over 12 years in age. We had some problems along the way
(homesickness, taking one scout to the emergency room with an asthema
attack, and one serious breach of camp behavior) but the key is that
all of my scouts not only survived, but had fun and worked hard.
My adult and youth leadership were staring blankly at each other by
Friday night, however, repeating the mantra "One more day, One more
day, One more day..." :-)
And BTW, if there are any Scouts or Scouters on line from Old Baldy
Council, you folks have one heck of a camp up there at Holcomb Valley
Scout Ranch. We enjoyed it so much we plan on coming back sometime
in the next few years.
