YP Training Tapes

I have not heard of new basic leader training tapes to replace the one with
Cordelia and the gang and the audience participation that lasts about 1.5 hrs
(with discussion time). The "Time to Tell" and "It Happened to Me" for the
boys are still with us.
However, I do have in my possession the two new training tapes for Venturing
folks, one brief one for adult leaders which is one of the best brief
explanations of normal adolescent (14-21) moral and social growth and
development I've ever seen. All Venturing leaders should see this tape in
addition to the standard YP training.
In addition, there is a training tape for Venturing age YOUTH (for whom "A
Time to Tell" is a little childish). It shows some well-acted vignettes on
situations for possible danger or abuse and follows each with a discussion
time and "reality check" with facts about the topic just dramatized. The
vignettes include acquaintance rape ( girl and boy plan to get to gether at a
party--- substance abuse, missed communication and bad assumptions make for a
sexual assault); sexual harrassment at work (a boy is pressured to go with a
girl whose uncle employs him; she threatens to tell the uncle he's a slacker
if he won't go with her, and the uncle just thinks he's lucky to have this
girl pursuing him); and an Internet stalker (girl gives out too much info and
the guy comes looking for her).
In my experience the kids respond well to these and they have some really
good discussions about the scenes and the "reality checks." All Venturing
leaders should see this tape before showing it to the youth (there is a
discussion guide to use when you show it) and get it for their units.
