What we do is allocate a flat amount ($600) from the popcorn
profits and transfer it into a campership account. We have
3 other fund raisers throughout the year (a car wash, a bake
sale, and and a bake auction) that yields another $400. The total
is split amongst the boys who participate in the fund raiser and
at the end of the year, the money is used to pay for day camp
registration, parent/son weekends, and resident camp fees.
Any amount not used by a boy is carried forward to the next
year. Amounts not used by the time a boy leaves the pack is
returned to the pack's general fund.
I know you don't want to keep track of this in the general account,
and I agree, but with a spreadsheet program like Lotus or Excel
(I used Quattro) it is really very simple, and takes very little time.
Not necessarily the best, or the only way, but it works for us.
