Just a comment that may relate to the increased bear activity people
have been commenting on. One, as bears become more numerous, there will
be bears that have frequent encounters with humans and their trash cans
(even those "less informed" who think its cute to feed them), thus
associating people with food. These bears are therefore more likely to
hang out where people hang out. Two, as a result of the very hot, dry
weather across large sections of the Midwest and Northeast, bear food
may be harder to come by, forcing bears to be more agressive in
securing something to eat. Especially now when bears are trying to put
on serious fat reserves to help them make it through the winter. Both
of these factors can make bear encounters much more dangerous than they
would be normally.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
