There are only two places that I know of that "require" red trunks for
lifeguards/aquatics staff: summer camp staff (and not every youth on summer
camp staff is a certified lifeguard) and Jamboree aquatics staff (and again,
not everyone there is certified either).
I'm not exactly sure why your son would be insisting on wearing them, since
it really doesn't work that way. I found mine (when I was going to be on
jambo staff) at Wal-Mart. You problem may be very simple: the first part
of August is not the time to look for swim wear. January or February of
next year may have a better selection. By this point, stores have finished
ordering their swim wear and are just waiting to sell them out.
