There are many things an older Scouter can do to stay active. In this case,
it sounds as if there might be financial limitations in your Troop. Perhaps
this gentleman could help by starting a "Uniform Bank" in your troop where
the older boys would donate uniforms when they outgrow them. He could also
go around to thrift stores, The Salvation Army, and your local Good Will
Store and ask for their uniforms, many will give them to kids for free. And
finally, perhaps he could contact local businesses and charities to ask for
a "Uniform Grant" to buy uniform parts for the boys. This project would keep
him active in the troop (and with the boys), should not be so overwhelming
that it would cause futher problems at home, and would help your troop reach
it's goal of quality unit. If and when your Troop achieves full uniforming,
he could adopt another needy Troop in your district. The point is that it
will keep him busy with a meaningful program that will help the boys and
keep him active on a limited basis. Good Luck to you.
