Hi Chad! Welcome!! You asked us all:
>Now my problem. I have a Scout going up for Eagle. He is very
>close to the threshold of eighteen and the only has too complete his
>project. The problem is no matter how much I nudge him he really isn't
>working hard towards completion of his project. The Scout has always >been
one of best leaders and gives his all in everything we've ever done. >I
just cannot seem to have him grasp the fact that he needs to complete >this
project. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help him >along?
First, stop *nudging him*. *Shove him*!!
(no, I don't mean physically!! *grinning*)
He needs more than just a reminder, Chad...he needs a periodic reminder that
he's *this close* to earning Eagle...and that the ONLY person that can do it
for him is HIM!
Second, remind him of why Eagle is so important...his definition of why
Eagle is important. The only way you'll learn this, to "use his own
reasoning" for getting Eagle is to ASK HIM. Then, you can gently remind
him, for example, "Hey...the college admissions people are going to be
looking for a copy of your Eagle Scout card...isn't that what you want to
get Eagle for?? Then what are you waiting on??"
Finally, assist him in working on that project again. Many Eagle Scout
candidate start on the project and are really "gung-ho" about doing it, and
then realizing the REAL WORK that goes into it, gets stuck somewhere. Offer
that "tow rope" to get him out of that "rut" and back on track. DO NOT DO
HIS PROJECT FOR HIM...but rather see where he's at and offer to help him to
overcome the problem that he's having with that project.
Hope this helps out!
