A hypothetical "food for thought" scenario:
Let's say that your unit has an (exemplary, Eagle scout, etc.) ASM who shows up
in the local papers as one of the organizers of an anti-gay (anti-black,
anti-whatever) rally by the KKK (or, pick your "favorite" right-wing
organization). The newspaper article also notes that he is an ASM in your unit.
This person has not espoused his anti-whatever attitude during any troop
activities (as far as anyone knows). What do you do? What would/should Council
or National do? (Would the answer have been any different, say, 50 years ago?)
Adverse/controversial publicity is bad for the unit, regardless of whether the
issue is politically correct or politically incorrect.
If it isn't for the boys, it's for the birds.
