and OUR guy KenS,
I hope that NONE of us went into or will go into the web sites
that were listed in Ken's note EVEN though it was his request.
IMHO Ken, as he noted, was shocked to anger and reacted rather
than really thinking things through. It is VERY tempting to prey
on the errors and weaknesses of others yet WE scouters(adults)
and scouts(young men and women) should be striving to be helpful
to others rather than otherwise. Beyond VA-MikeB's FINE description
of the LAW, and the entire subject, we should all be striving to
develop or maintain a set of God/SO/SL ethics that are not easy
YET are utilized when we are met by some unusual situations that
appeal to our less than laudable quite natural non-scout instincts.
OK I know a few went looking. You know THE GREAT SCOUT watched.
(Gosh I too was tempted to double click)
Please read VA-Mike Bowman's note "Law and the Web"
For Ken & His District
With this person recording and then posting this information
I think you have a significant problem that the Council Scout
Executive has to be made aware of and at minimum give advice
on how or who should fix the matter.
Considering everything, much more than I know or want to, the
CE/SE might give a HARD SLAP, might REMOVE the recording person
from these type of meetings til they mature, repent, or delegate
someone else in Council to FIX IT and come back to the CE/SE for
a friendly scouter like chat.
If the CE/SE needs help find someone else that has a kind/firm
focus and has been a foundation for your council through many
CE/SEs. Please remember the CE/SE in situations like this can
still react in a normal human way for which they too need a close
private friend so that they react FAST yet in the best scouter
Beyond this obvious violation of trust in a private meeting, and a
significant error in judgement by the recorder and smart wave file
creator, if the conflict is as bad as it seems you may need to
involve the CE/SE or his designee in a conflict resolution meeting
with the various participants to see who really has the difficulty
so that everyone gets back on the district's real scouting business.
VA-MikeB gave us all some really good Conflict Resolution tid bits
a long spell ago.
God Speed and at the most difficult times strive to feel God or the
Great Scout Walking beside YOU, THEM, and HIM as you deal with this
difficult situation with your District's volunteers and paid
And YES OF COURSE HAVE SOME FUN and Count your blessings that you
weren't the recorder and will have the gift to lessen the conflict.
YiS, IMHO, and may we each attempt to live the SO,SL,SS,SM
