Cross post, looking for Crews and Ships

OK folks, this game begins to get interesting:
For the end of the decade/whatever (avoiding whether it should've been done
for 2000 or 2001 completely) the Young Adults program of the Presbyterian
Church will be bringing 30,000 kids from 12-21 (plus a load of parents) to
Venturing has asked to be there, and only because I was there at their
General Assembly the first day along with someone from the relationships
division and he caught wind of it.
The youth who co-moderates the group is a 19-year-old Eagle Scout and he's
fired up for letting Venturing in. (I ran over to Irving one morning and
asked Brad Harris to come down some time and meet the young man.) We would
need to get every crew and ship that is willing to come (which to me means
they either need to be willing to come or to be a crew or ship chartered at a
Presbyterian Church or by a Presbterian Mens organization) from about12/28 to
1/1. You could be there one day or every day. But the booth has to show
adventure, excitement, etc. We need a list of units that MIGHT be interested,
we need a list of units that ARE interested, we need a list of all Venturing
Crews and Sea Scout Ships at Presbyterian Churchs from about Milwaukee south
to Nashville, from at least Iowa east to Cleveland or Cincinnati or so.
The booth has to be interactive, informational, AND it has to be done well.
The youth who will be taking responsibility for the event is currently on a
camp staff, so being the adult closest to the event with ties to the event
already in place (being a Venturing leader and national secretary for the
National Association of Presbyterian Scouters) I get to try to start the
National is supposed to get me a list of all of the units I mentioned, but
this one notice gives your group, if they are interested, advanced notice if
they would be interested in coming, if they can help turn this into an
EXCITING booth they now have the option to be at the top of the list.
Where is this occurring? The RCA dome. Three or more concerts (they're
waiting for at least one final confirmation) and I tried to write down the
names but I remember one is Amy Grant. Theres the religious aspect with bible
study groups and daily services, but there is also the option of recreational
events and leadership training, which we could even agree to teach a session
or two of.
Cost? Aye theres a question we didn't get answered. If you were coming for
the whole event its $115/youth, but maybe we can work something out as
exhibitors. I don't have the answer yet. Cost? Transportation and food is
your own, as is housing. However if you're coming for the whole thing there
are churches in the area offering basic accomodations for the high proce of
$5/person/night. Hotel rooms run from $63 to a hundred depending on how close
to downtown Indy you want to be.
They were displaying this with vigor at the congregations General Assembly
(yeah, I know, all YOU heard were that they decided to put off whether or not
they would allow homosexual preachers if you heard anything at all) with
T-Shirts blazing "WHERE WILL YOU BE?" and fliers and pamphlets. This will
come off well, and hits Venturing's potential audience. This could be a major
boost to the program.
Anybody who can help me get a jump on this list or who is interested, contact
me off the lists with the subject: New Years.
