"I only remember one that didn't live up to his committment. He was 13
1/2 when he passed his BOR and he departed Scouting eight months later.
He wanted to play football, take part in the high school band and in
other activities that didn't allow time for Scouting. He told me he
just "HAD" to do other things."
I console the loss of any young person, but I have to agree with many
that have posted. I got the feeling that he "certainly didn't...have the
"Spirit of an Eagle."". What ever happened to an Eagle giving back to
Scouting, what Scouting gave to you? I know that many might say that he
might have done it when he became a Scout Leader some day, but why not
serve as an example to the younger Scouts and do more potential good for
Scouting in the long-run, and then be a Scout Leader someday(possibly).
I don't want to get on another SOAPBOX, but it just really gripes me how
not only Society as a whole is now, but it seems that we have lowered our
expectations of Scouts as well. It is probably just me though.
