Patty asked us all:
>Troop 108 in Humboldt, Iowa celebrated with Tyler Tinken tonight as >he was
presented his Eagle Scout award.
YEA Tyler!! Congrats on the extremely great work!
>As we visited afterwards, we wondered how many Eagle Scout awards >are
awarded each year.
>Does anyone know how many young men are presented the Eagle each >year?
That's a question I get asked a lot, Patty, and to be really honest, I never
have received a good answer from the BSA's Eagle Scout Service. They are
the "experts" in this area and it was a proud stat that they would provide
every year to us all as to how many Eagle Scouts receive this high honor.
In 1990, they stopped the practice of publically releasing the number of
Eagle Scouts (or at least, since 1991, I haven't been able to get an exact
number). The best answer I received was in 1994, when we asked this
question online, and I believe it was Bruce Cobern that told us that it was
close to 36,000 that year. The number has been sliding downward since
I understand 1988 or 89....
Anyone else have more current numbers than '94's 36,000 give or take a few
