Troop 244, Fargo ND has a new Eagle. Brian Hartje becomes the latest
resident of the nest in 244. Brian rebuilt and placed 117 (yes one hundred
seventeen) wood duck houses for the Riverkeepers, a group dedicated to making
the river corridor of the Red River of the North, dividing Fargo ND and
Moorhead MN, a more invinting place to visit, bike along the paths, hike, and
commune with nature. Even the occasional mosquito (he he). This project
involved rebuilding 150 wood duck houses that had been poorly constructed by
a previous volunteer effort. Some of the rebuilt houses were placed on the
property of Moorhead city employees along the river, so Brian had to place
the 177. These were place in park areas along the Red River, but away from
traveled areas. Houses were numbered and distances measured so that a hatch
count could be taken after the duck family moved out. The original plan was
to use GPS to locate the houses but no receiver was available.
CoH is sometime in August depending on conflicts.
