That is a pretty difficult question to answer. What kind of weather are you
planning to go out in? Do you want a free standing tent? I've got a real
lightweight (2 1/4 pound) single wall, single person Walrus tent. It is just
the basics with barely enough venting to take care of the condensation. It
is so small that it makes it almost impossible to get dressed in the tent.
That can really be a problem if you have nasty weather outside and either
want to get in or out of raingear. I also have a Sierra Designs Clip
Flashlight. It makes a pretty cozy two person tent and a great single person
tent, with enough room to put some gear in the tent and vestibule. Neither
tent is free standing. I suggest you head to your local backpacking store
and try out the models. A good store will set the tents up in the store for
you. Get inside and see if you have enough space. Backpacker magazine
recently had a pretty good review of single person tents. Finally, get a
good brand tent, one that will stick by you when you need extra parts or
