In our District, I am the Training Chair. I am also trained to present
Youth Protection but I also have 4 Trainers that can present the
program. All of them are willing to take the course to wherever needs
be to get the program done and people trained.
Here, we dont explain it at Youth Protection, we explain it as self
protection. We remind people that it is imperative that they attend this
training because what would happen if they didnt know the policys and
a boy accused THEM.
The Training doesnt take 3 to 4 hours. The newist video that we have
here only takes and hour and a half including discussion time.
I know that Youth Protection training is one of my "Things" that I feel is
important and shouldnt be overlooked. People can read the leader
books and other books out there to get an idea of how to run a meeting,
but there isnt any magic book that can train them how to protect
themselves and how to protect our boys. I know that all people arent
bad, but to me, Youth Protection training also shows people that BSA
protects our youth and we are looking out for them. It shows that we
have a strong stance on this issue and this may show some potential
abusers that get past the background checks, that BSA will take the
time and the means to make sure that all youth in our care are
