Scouts-L Mail Archive for June of 1999: FA kits/Ticks

We had one of the neatest tick-removal tools issued to us at Jambo, Heth
Medical, the MASH tent at the central area. I, the tough old broad who
generally stops at nothing, was heretofore famously avoidant of anything to
do with touching ticks, and I got so good at this tool I used to jump at the
chance to use it when any kid came in with one <G>.
It had an action like scissors or those clamps we used to use for grabbing
small things (ahem), but instead of blades or a clamp its business end had
two little blunt blades that scooped together against the skin and sorta
grabbed the tick by its head as they came together. Never failed to get the
whole tick out in one smooth grab. They were orange plastic and I would give
my eye tooth to have a couple of them now. (Then I could stop having my kid
pull ticks off the cat and go back to doing it myself.)
Anybody seen a tool like this and know where I can get some? Off line is
fine, but I'll bet others would like it too.
