We use them all the time. They do work! We make them out of a 5 gal.
bucket with lid and a toilet plunger. Cut a hole in the lid just big
enough to slide the handle of the plunger thru.
Just got back from setting up our Council's JLTC and each patrol has one
in their issued equipment at their patrol site. Use standard laundry
detergent (liquid or powder) in about 1/2 the quanity for the smaller
"load". This does require 2 or more "rinse cycles to get the soap out,
but otherwise does an OK job, especially when you consider you're out in
the field far from a laundromat. The boys love to use them and will
usually do so without any prompting from you if they are availble.
