One of the best and most remembered gifts given to our troop was a large
ceremonial drum. The drum is about 2.5 feet across and was made here in
Lawrence by a Native American man who makes them for Pow Wows. It has
served for more ceremonies than I can count and has been loaned to many
other troops and even other districts. I believe the cost was about
$200.....it's been a while since I arranged the purchase for one of our
scouting families so it may be more. That also may be more than you want
to spend, I dunno....or maybe you could go in with another family or two.
The drum can be painted with a design that will be "cryptic" enough to be
both decorative in a Native American style but still mean something
personal to the scout and his family.
......just a suggestion.
