Boy do I know the feeling!! My pack web page
(http://www.aristotle.net/~pack55) has an animated pop-bottle launch
(we video taped my son launching ours and converted it into a 70K gif).
I regularly get messages asking how to build them so I even set up a
"Water Rocket" links section on Scouting The Net (see below). We
purchased our launcher for about $35 but it is really well made and an
enormous amount of fun (I don't remember where they got it, but I could
probably track it down if anyone is interested). Our launcher has a U
shaped pin that holds the bottle on until it is removed so you can kick
the pressure up to about 100 psi (actually more but I shouldn't say
I HIGHLY recommend the use of an air compressor (I bought a $50 110
volt mini-compressor at Sears). We destroyed a bicycle pump about
every 10 launches (about 5 pumps over 2 separate launch dates) but the
with the compressor we launched about 100 times at our last outing and
it should be with us for a long time in the future (I hope) and with
the built in pressure gauge you can get more consistent launches!
