Don't know what you were trying to pump thru it, but I have a First Need
that worked very well at Philmont. I didn't have time to sit there and pump
it, so I just hooked up 6 feet of hose and hung the bag on a tree; let
gravity do the work. And the newer First Need canisters fit both sizes of
Nalgene bottles--I had a couple of wide-mouth jars at Philmont.
One thing that will clog any filter is running a can of cola thru it.
I've seen it done with a First Need and it does work--takes out all the color
and flavor, but the canister does require a backflush rather quickly (must be
the molasses coloring).
