Wow. Having the Venturers decide who can join their crew? I have always
felt that one of the great lessons Scouting (at all levels) teaches is
cooperation with those with whom you would not necessarily associate, to
further or reach a common goal. Having Venturers vote to allow in a new
Venturer sort of defeats that purpose.
Technically this process probably violates Article VII, Section 1 of the BSA
Rules and Regulations which states that an "active youth member is one who,
with the approval of a parent or guardian if necessary, becomes a member of a
unit; obligates himself or herself to attend meetings regularly; fulfills a
member's obligations to the unit; subscribes to the Scout Oath or the code of
his or her respective program; and participates in an appropriate program
based on a members age...."
It does not say that an active member must have the approval of the unit
membership, just his parent or guardian.
I kind of think that this proposal takes something away from Scouting, and
must be discouraged.
