Scouts-L Mail Archive for April of 1999: road rallies
Fri, 23 Apr 1999 10:41:04 EDT
We were discussing past fun activities at a committee meeting two nights
ago. One of the members said that he used to love participating in road
rallies, but that they were outlawed by BSA in '73, due to the oil crisis.
Does anyone know of this rule is still in effect?
Please check your Guide to Safe Scouting--1999 revision, page 30.

I take this to mean that the BSA doesn't want Scouts *in motorised vehicles
in any sort of competition.* Road rallies would meet this criterion, although
they are not as intuitively risky as motorcycling or demo derbies.
Maybe they could practice these skills in an orienteering course instead!
