As far as I am concerned it is the spirit of the rule to look at the
"War Game" part of this rule and say Laser Tag is also banned as you
are in effect "killing" your opponent. In capture the flag you are
simply "Taking a prisoner" and not "Killing" them. If you look at all
your games in this light you can quickly figure which games can be
used in Boy Scouts and which can not.
I personally like to play paintball but can not have the boys play
I would like to also play a game I read about in an older Boy Scout
publication. It was like jousting with canoes using padded sticks. You
had 3 boys in each canoe with two paddlers and one jouster. The object
was to get the jouster off his feet. If he went to one knee to keep
balance he lost. If he fell out or the entire canoe was dumped he
lost. I could not see national allowing this in today's society. But
it still sounds like fun.
The above are my opinions only.

I've got a question for you. I have seen the posts on
Paint Ball, and can understand why BSA doesn't allow it.
There's just too much chance on someone getting injured by
a flying paint ball.
"The activity commonly referred to as "War Game"-in which
individuals shoot paint or dye at one another-is an
My question is, does the same statement in "The Guide to
Safe Scouting" apply to Laser Tag?? There are no flying
projectiles or anything. Last December, my troop was
getting ready for our annual trip to play Laser Tag (it was
our third year in a row.) When I took the tour permit to
council, they would not approve it, b/c our executive was
not allowing Laser Tag, and was using the Paint Ball
statement in the guide to safe scouting as his reasoning.
Can anyone help?? I know the last word rests with the
Scout Executive, but has anyone else had any experience
with this?? Any ideas on how to change his mind??
